Clients' runners at the races in 2008

A winner at the beach. Shustek & Stanley’s Kinesiology (Dixie Union - Lakeville by Evansville Slew) broke her maiden in her second career start when trying the Del Mar grass course for the first time. Purchased at the Barretts March 2-year-olds in training sale for $190,000, Kinesiology was produced from a matings recommendation made by Star of the North Bloodstock. She is trained by Craig Dollase and was ridden to victory by David Flores.

A winner at the Spa. James Riccio’s French Song (Silic - Quilma by Semenenko) drew off to prevail by daylight besting claiming rivals while making her second career start at Saratoga after being claimed earlier in the summer at Churchill Downs. Produced from a planned matings recommendation by Star of the North Bloodstock, French Song is now trained by Gary Contessa and was ridden to victory by Rajiv Maragh.

Wins by ten-lengths first out. Alan and Beverly Kasdan’s Steel Trap couldn’t have looked more impressive when besting a field of Minnesota-bred maiden 2-year olds in his first outing at Canterbury Park. Trained by Tammy Domenosky and ridden to victory by Derek Bell, A Steel Trap was produced from the Stop the Music mare Crystal Lady, who was sold when the dam was carrying this colt foal in utero. Star of the North Bloodstock brokered the private purchase of Crystal Lady for breeders Jeff and Deb Hilger, who raised this colt in the name of their Bleu Valley Farm.

Goes home a winner. Somerset Wish, (Gazebo - Somerset Blum by Purdue King) one of the first runners campaigned by the Star of the North Racing Partnership left her owners with a race to remember when she narrowly prevailed in a claiming contest in what was to be her last career start. Campaigned over two seasons, Somerset Wish gave the partners a good effort every time she raced and always gave our group something to look forward to when her name appeared in the entries. Somerset Wish is now retired and is owned by a member of the partnership who will keep the filly as a riding horse.

A daylight winner at Belmont Park. Camelia J. Casby’s Law Enforcement (Posse - Zambezi Belle by Lord at War) continues in his winning ways when drawing clear under Alan Garcia in an optional claiming even t at Belmont Park in July. Star of the North Bloodstock assisted this colt’s owner-breeder with the purchase of dam Zambezi Belle and her subsequent mating planning. Stakes winner Law Enforcement’s career earnings now total over $238,000 and with just seven starts under his belt, offers the promise that his career best effort may be yet to come for trainer Mark Hennig.

From the MTA Sale to the Winner’s Circle. David Hansen’s Enlistee (Honour and Glory - Home by Ten by Far Out East) prevails in a maiden special weight contest at Canterbury Park in his third career outing. Star of the North Bloodstock acted as an advisor to Mr. Hansen when he purchased this promising colt from the 2007 Minnesota Thoroughbred Yearling Sale. Enlistee is trained by Troy Bethke and was ridden by Derek Bell.

A memorable winner for Star of the North Racing. Somerset Sam was part of the two horse package that comprised the first Star of the North Racing partnership and he didn’t disappoint his many fans when breaking his maiden at Canterbury Park this summer. Canterbury Park announcer Paul Allen joined the partners and friends in the winner’s circle to celebrate Sam’s memorable victory with trainer Bernell Rhone and jockey Dean Butler.

A gutty effort from a promising Minnesota-bred filly. Pete Mattson’s 3-year old filly Jane’s Gold (Sho t of Gold - Hoists Danzer) got the 2008 Canterbury season started the right way for her owner-breeder when she bested allowance foes in her first two starts of the meeting. Ridden by Jose Betancourt, Jane’s Gold is trained by Percy Scherbenske and was produced from a matings recommendation provided by Star of the North Bloodstock. Star of the North Racing will campaign Jane’s Gold’s half brother Ghost Dance in a partnership to be offered next season.

One riot, one Ranger. John and Kathy Krantz contacted Star of the North Bloodstock in 2002 when it came time to find a stallion for their only Thoroughbred broodmare Look To Reality. The result of that meeting was realized six years later when Kid Mariah (Slew City Slew - Look To Reality by Look Fast) broke his maiden for his owner-breeders at Canterbury Park. John and Kathy were joined in the winner’s circle with their friends, jockey Manny Vasquez and trainer Mac Robertson.
