Star of the North Bloodstock has been retained on a number of occasions to secure racing and breeding stock for clients through private transactions and abides by the Code of Ethics established by the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Assocation Sales Integrity Task Force. You can learn more about the task force and its recommendations at:

The first mare ever purchased for a client's breeding operation (and, in fact, the first horse ever purchased by Star of the North Bloodstock) was Hurry Hurry, purchased privately for the late Carl Backes' Maywoods' Thoroughbreds of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota in February 2000. Hurry Hurry delivered a filly foal from the cover of Fit to Fight that season who came to be named Maywood's Jill. Stakes-placed in all four years she raced, Maywood's Jill just missed winning black type in a number of stakes events at Canterbury Park and retired with $98,000 in earnings.
That was the first of many successful transactions finding stakes-quality mares for clients. The names of top class producing mares purchased and sold by Star of the North Bloodstock grows every year and includes stakes winners/producers Lilgirlshines, Classy Con, Nidari and Crystal Lady.

One of the agency’s most successful private purchases to date was the acquisition of the Lord at War mare Zambezi Belle for client Camelia J. Casby in 2001. Purchased as an unraced maiden, Zambezi Belle produced the stakes-winning colt Law Enforcement from the cover of Posse. A winner in his first start at Belmont Park, Law Enforcement annexed the Aspirant Stakes by 7-˝ lengths in his second appearance while just missing the stakes record.

Zambezi Belle’s hot streak continued at the 2007 Keeneland November sale, where her weanling filly was the highest-selling offspring produced by freshman sire Grand Reward. That filly is pictured in this advertisement that appeared in the Blood-Horse and Thoroughbred Times.

Brand new Thoroughbred owners Paul and Michelle Koenig retained Star of the North Bloodstock to purchase their first horse after attending a New Owners seminar at Canterbury Park. They are pictured here with their family and friends after Creative Control won a maiden special weight contest in her first start at Canterbury Park. Creative Control was purchased privately from the Russell Reineman Stable and the Koenigs enjoyed even more success when they purchased a future stakes winner in Jazz Quest from those connections in a subsequent purchase.
Star of the North Bloodstock has been retained to sell and buy racing and breeding stock of all ages and in all stages of development. While Star of the North Bloodstock does not retain horses for its own account, the agency has established contacts throughout the industry that allows its clients to secure runners before they become available to the public. I invite your inquiry in the event you wish to buy or sell a Thoroughbred privately.
